Features

Stunning example of modern/contemporary architecture that we like to call Modern Rhapsody. Designed and built by Designer Builder Jonathan Lei. With over 2 decades of custom home experience, his design and construction expertise shines through and through. From the moment you drive up, an oasis of botanical tapestry is designed to welcome and embrace you. Sit back in your large and level driveway as you feast your eyes on the incredible architecture composed of 7 materials that have been artfully chosen and skillfully crafted. Beauty aside, this house is built like a fortress. Over 52 individual concrete piers and up to 12” thick concrete retaining walls bunker this house into the hillside. Contemporary and sleek styling, yet warm and welcoming, a stronghold that is also open and inviting. Truly the best of all worlds.

Moving from the exterior to interior one finds that 1887 boasts over 3033 square feet of well thought out living space. The main level is focused on convenience of public living space that includes an office adjacent to the entry, a gallery-like foyer that leads to a beautiful formal dining room. The open floor plan flows to a gourmet kitchen that is flanked by an oversized island backsplash and windows that flood the space with wonderful natural light.  The kitchen opens to an additional eating space and, of course, the family room features a modern rock wall fireplace. The family room dons to a level and private yard with generous lawn space. Other conveniences include an oversized pantry, a mudroom and an oversized powder room with extra storage. Centered in the home is an open staircase, with floor to ceiling glass railings, donning to an entire floor of more private bedroom spaces including 2 bedrooms with walk-in closets, a full bath, a centrally located laundry room, a large storage closet and a very lavish master suite with a one of a kind master bath and an oversized walk-in closet. This level even has two outdoor spaces, one public and one private. Set aside by a level is a very private guest suite.

All this can be yours at 1887 Tunnel Rd.

Neighborhood

Claremont Hills

The Claremont neighborhood straddles the Berkeley and Oakland borders and features lush landscaping, curving streets that hug the canyon hills, and open space. Homes on the leafy side streets provide old-fashioned Berkeley elegance, with turn-of-the-century brown shingles, revivals, prairie-, custom contemporary-, and Tudor-styled structures offering residents a place to call home within the landscaped confines.
The landmark of this area is the majestic Claremont Hotel Club & Spa, a vast Victorian edifice perched on 22 acres in the hills. Three outdoor pools, 10 tennis courts, a full-service spa, a fitness club, and three onsite restaurants deliver stunning views, and the resort has become popular with generations of locals as a luxurious getaway.
Elmwood's shopping district on College Avenue in Berkeley offers old-fashioned shops, access to the Rockridge Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), grocery stores, bookshops, and flower stands. Restaurants, a movies theater, and a bakery are all a short walk away.
The Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve is 208 acres of open space managed by the East Bay Regional Park District and more than 200 acres outside of the canyon owned by the University of California, Berkeley. Garber Park, a 13-acre oak-and-bay-tree woodland south of Claremont Avenue, is owned by the city of Oakland. Trails reward ambitious hikers with panoramic views of San Francisco Bay.
